A retirement-account move is easier to review when the important information is in one place. Build your folder before authorizing the transfer.

Start with the account

Keep the receiving firm's legal name, account agreement, contact details, and written instructions. Ask your current and receiving providers to explain the proposed transfer or rollover method. Review tax consequences with a qualified professional; do not assume every method works the same way.

Add the purchase details

Include the exact proposed holdings, written quote, and all documents describing ongoing charges and selling terms. Note which business supplied each document and when.

Keep a question log

Use a short checklist:

  • What am I being asked to sign?

  • What does each signature authorize?

  • Which figures are estimates rather than commitments?

  • Who will confirm the money arrived and the purchase was completed?

  • Which questions are still unanswered?

Your next step

Put a date beside every answer and keep copies of what you approve. An incomplete folder is a reason to request clarification. It is much easier to resolve uncertainty while the decision is still in your hands than to reconstruct a conversation afterward.

Wishing you a secure and prosperous retirement,
