Gold’s explosive rally wasn’t random — it was driven by fear and uncertainty. Investors rushed into gold as a safe haven, thanks to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine which roiled oil prices and disrupted commerce worldwide, rising conflicts arising from President Trump’s volatile and unpredictable trade policies, and doubts about central bank policy stability.
That pushed demand for gold sharply higher worldwide, helping gold climb more than 150% since the start of 2024.
At the same time, expectations for lower U.S. interest rates, concerns about currency debasement, heavy central bank buying, and a weakening dollar underpinned the metal’s repricing as a core store of value.
Meanwhile, JP Morgan expects gold to reach $6,000 per ounce. So according to their analysts, there’s still some room to run in this bull market for gold.
