A Gold IRA may arrive in one sales presentation, but several businesses can be involved. Knowing their names makes it easier to understand who is responsible when you need help.
Follow the responsibilities
The dealer sells the metal. The custodian administers the retirement account. The depository stores the holdings. Ask each provider to confirm its role in writing, including which tasks belong to someone else.
Do not assume that a custodian accepting an investment means it has checked whether that investment is suitable for you. The SEC warns that self-directed IRA custodians generally do not evaluate the investment's quality or legitimacy.
Try a simple contact test
Before committing, ask: “If my statement looks wrong, who do I call?” Then ask who handles a sale, a storage question, and an account transfer.
Write one company name and one contact method beside each task. If every question leads back to a salesperson who cannot provide details, the arrangement needs more explanation.
Your next step
Draw three boxes on a page: dealer, custodian, depository. Under each, add its responsibilities and charges. Keep the relevant agreements with that page. You do not need to manage every moving part yourself, but you should know where responsibility sits.
Wishing you a secure and prosperous retirement,
John E.
